To ensure the safe and proper operation of manual and automated valves by all personnel, minimizing the risk of injury, equipment damage, and environmental hazards.
All workers must wear appropriate PPE including:
- Hard hat
-Safety goggles or face shield
-Steel-toed boots
Before operating any valve:
-Inspect the valve and surrounding area for leaks, corrosion, or obstructions.
- Verify the valve tag or identification to ensure it's the correct one.
-Review the process line diagram (P&ID) if needed to understand flow direction and pressure
- Turn slowly to avoid water hammer or pressure surges.
-Stand to the side of the valve handwheel - never directly in front of it.
- Use valve keys or wrenches properly sized and designed for the specific valve.
- Never force a stuck valve - report it immediately.
