MANUALS OF VALVE

MANUAL OF SLUICE VALVES

1. Introduction

Scope

This manual provides guidelines for the installation, operation, maintenance, inspection, warranty coverage, and service procedures for Sluice Valves manufactured and supplied by GM Dalui & Sons.

Applications

Sluice Valves are primarily designed for isolation purposes and are widely used in:

  • Water Supply Systems
  • Municipal Water Distribution Networks
  • Irrigation Projects
  • Water Treatment Plants
  • Sewage Treatment Plants
  • Pumping Stations
  • Industrial Pipelines
  • Fire Protection Networks

These valves are suitable for full open or full close service and should not generally be used for throttling applications.

2. Installation Guidelines

Pre-Installation Checks

Before installation:

  • Verify valve size, pressure class, and material specifications.
  • Inspect valve for transportation damage.
  • Ensure valve bore is clean and free from foreign particles.
  • Remove protective covers from flange faces.
  • Confirm flow direction requirements, if applicable.

Pipeline Preparation

  • Flush pipeline before installation.
  • Remove welding slag, stones, rust, and debris.
  • Ensure pipe alignment is accurate.
  • Avoid excessive pipe stress on valve body.

Valve Orientation

Recommended installation positions:

  • Vertical spindle position preferred.
  • Horizontal spindle position acceptable.
  • Ensure sufficient clearance for handwheel operation and maintenance access.

Flange Bolting

  • Use approved gaskets.
  • Tighten bolts in a diagonal sequence.
  • Apply uniform torque.
  • Avoid over-tightening.

Installation Precautions

  • Valve should be partially open during installation.
  • Never lift valve using handwheel, gearbox, or actuator.
  • Use proper lifting equipment for large diameter valves.

3. Operation Instructions

Opening Procedure

  1. 1Rotate handwheel counterclockwise.
  2. 2Open valve gradually.
  3. 3Continue operation until full open position is reached.
  4. 4Avoid excessive force once fully opened.

Closing Procedure

  1. 1Rotate handwheel clockwise.
  2. 2Close valve gradually.
  3. 3Ensure wedge is fully seated.
  4. 4Do not use additional tools or extension bars.

Operating Precautions

  • Operate valve slowly to prevent hydraulic shock.
  • Do not use valve for flow regulation.
  • Avoid excessive torque.
  • Operate within specified pressure and temperature limits.

4. Maintenance Schedule

Monthly Inspection

  • Check for external leakage.
  • Inspect gland packing condition.
  • Verify smooth handwheel operation.
  • Check fasteners and mounting hardware.

Quarterly Inspection

  • Inspect stem lubrication.
  • Check gland bolts and packing adjustment.
  • Examine gearbox operation where applicable.
  • Verify coating condition.

Annual Inspection

  • Inspect wedge and seating surfaces.
  • Examine stem threads.
  • Replace worn packing if necessary.
  • Inspect seals and gaskets.
  • Perform pressure and leakage testing.
